Betty has been in the family since 2010. My 10 year old Saxo had died and I really fancied another Volkswagen, having had a 74 bug back in the latter half of the 90s. She’s named Betty after my gran who we lost that year and incredibly they share the same birthday!

She’s essentially a stock 1300, with one or two little tweaks. She’s slightly lowered at the front on 2.5″ dropped spindles which had some disc brakes thrown in to improve stopping and other than some Porsche tombstone seats (which I managed to get hold of before they got silly expensive) and some tunes, she’s pretty much stock.

I first dabbled with VW's back in the late 90s with my first orange beetle, which was rusty beyond belief. After a hiatus of 10 years, I came back into the fold in 2010 when I bought Betty, adding to the family 2 years later with Clarence, my '71 early bay. I am more than a little partial to German beer.
